Apple iPad

Today January 27th Steve Jobs presented the new iPad, a device that is a mix of an iPhone and a Macbook, it runs an improved version of the iPhone OS and is a well designed tablet computer. The price is low.

To Buy or not to buy an iPad

The pros and Cons of an iPad are:

iPad Pros

  • It is not so expensive.
  • It is better than the majority of NetBooks.
  • It is far better than the Kindle.
  • It has a LED-backlit screen for 720p.
  • It has a aluminum body and not a plastic one.
  • It has a very friendly user multi-touch interface
  • You can play the same games and use the same Apps taht you bought for your iPhone without paying for them twice.
  • It has a very good version of iWork.

iPad with iBook iBookStore

iBook looks great, and you can change the font of your books, it uses the Open Format: ePub, so you can upload your own books.

iPad Cons

  • It is not as portable as an iPhone or iPod.
  • It is uncomfortable to use if you not have its dock, you will have to use one of your hands to hold it, something that doesn’t happens with an laptop. Even Steve Jobs while comfortable son his couch had to use one hand to hold it and just one hand to use it, which is very tiring and unproductive if you need to type.
  • It is not as powerful as a Macbook Pro.
  • The external Keyboard dock just indicates how it wishes to have a real keyboard or to be a laptop, but it is not.
  • It has no webcam.
  • It has no Camera.
  • No USB port.
  • It is no Multitask.
  • It is without Flashplayer.
  • You need to buy extra connectors for a camera port and for a SD card reader.

Conclusions

  • (n) For listening music, playing games and watching some videos while you are out of home, the perfect device is an iPod Touch or iPhone, since they are very portable. So in this case buy one of those and not the iPad.
  • (n) For a powerful portable computer, a MacBook Pro is far better (or a laptop of your choose). iPad is just a big gadget that needs to be connected to another computer, like an iPhone, and it won’t be the MAIN computer of your home like a MacBook Pro could be.
  • (y) For an e-book reader don’t waste money in Kindle or any other model, iPad is the best gadget.
  • (y) If you want a Netbook, a small laptop with less functionalities, you better buy a cooler gadget, an iPad.

So it is up to you, depending in what are your needs.
